Built in 2014, Kalaw Pandaw is a spacious river cruiser carrying up to 36 guests on four and seven night journeys between Yangon, Bagan and Mandalay. Her shallow draft means she can travel right to the edges of the river in the shallowest waters where larger ships cannot go, enabling guests to get up close to rural life on the banks.
Beautifully fitted out in Burmese teak and brass, there are 18 roomy cabins split over two decks, all with panoramic French windows, air conditioning and an ensuite bathroom with shower. At 18 sqm in size, they feature twin beds and generous closet space.
Public areas are furnished in colonial style including a bistro-style dining room, a small library and an open-air lounge and bar with rattan sofas and reclining loungers. As well as guided daily shore excursions, guests can enjoy a series of cultural performances, educational talks, cooking classes during the cruise.
The captain leads a crew of 19, with the on board chef preparing a delicious mixture of Burmese and international classics, with a special feature being fresh baked pastries. Breakfasts and Lunches are served in a semi-buffet style, whilst dinners are a seated set menu. Whilst on board, enjoy complimentary coffee, water, tea, local soft drinks, local beer and local spirits, all served by the ship’s friendly barman.
