Described as one of the most beautiful and unspoilt islands in the world and the largest in the far southern Amirantes group, Desroches has over 14 kilometres of beautiful sandy beaches protected by a reef rich in coral and marine life.
The 71 Beach Villas and Residences all feature private pools and are designed with a laid-back island style featuring bold patterned textiles and natural wood. The coral barrier surrounding the island creates the perfect conditions for swimming, snorkelling and water sports, with 15 superb dive sites nearby, world-class fishing, and guests can borrow bikes or kayaks to explore the island. There’s a lovely spa and classes are offered daily at the yoga pavilion.
Nature walks
Explore this fascinating island on foot on a nature walk, where the highlight is most definitely coming face to face with one of the giant ancient Aldabra tortoises or spotting the nesting turtles. Head through the forest and visit the vegetable gardens and tree nursery, or the local craftsmen who will be pleased to show you their workshop.
Cycling round the island
Bikes are by far the best way to explore the island and guests have the use of one for their entire stay. The 15km of trails around the island are constantly maintained and lead to almost every corner and secret gem that the island has to offer. Why not visit The Deli before heading out and find a secret spot on the island for a secluded picnic?
Scuba diving
Desroches Island is at the centre of a coral atoll and natural marine sanctuary blessed with flourishing marine life and coral outcrops. With 15 classified dive sites to choose from and a vast amount of virgin reef still to be explored, Desroches is arguably the best place in the Seychelles for scuba diving.
World-class fishing
Desroches Island offers keen anglers a fishing paradise with four types of fishing available: fly fishing, bottom fishing, trawling and deep sea fishing. What makes this area so rich in fish stock is the 1300 metre trench which separates Desroches from the islands of Poivre and St Joseph. Challenge yourself to catch a wahoo, kingfish, tuna, sailfish, marlin or dorado which are abundant in these waters.
Watersports
Calm lagoon waters surround Desroches thanks to a coral barrier encircling the island, offering perfect conditions for a myriad of water sports, all of which are on offer from the Castaway Centre on the beach. Take to the water and try snorkelling, kayaking, paddleboarding, windsurfing and sailing. Snorkelling lessons and guided snorkelling trips with a marine educator are also available.
Surfing
In the undisturbed paradise of the Outer Amirantes, enjoy surfing the waves around Desroches with expert guidance and coaching from professional Tropicsurf instructors. From lessons in the lagoon for beginners to advanced offshore reef surfing with tow-outs by jet-ski, there is even a 5 day ‘ride clinic’ to perfect your skills with video analysis for those who would like to get serious about this fun sport.
Fitness Centre & Sports
Enjoy a game of volleyball on the beach, a tennis match on the open-air, floodlit tennis court or a good old fashioned workout at the airconditioned fitness centre. A range of yoga classes are also on offer including anti-gravity yoga in a dedicated pavilion.
Discovery Centre
To showcase the scale and variety of vegetation and marine life found in Desroches, the interactive Discovery Centre takes pride of place adjacent to the Castaway Centre. With dedicated learning areas, you’ll benefit from informative displays and 3D models of a Shearwater’s nest and turtle hatchlings, as well as meet with on-site WiseOceans marine educators who are based here year round. Activities during the week include guided nature walks, tortoise feeding, and night-time turtle nesting walks.

Our Opinion
This is a favourite of Temple Worlds, for obvious reasons! Great for everyone, especially for teens with a dedicated Teens programme and ample facilities and activities dedicated for all. With it's own airport and helipad, a stay at Four Seasons Desroches will be very tranquil. Being the only resort on the island gives you access to unspoilt beauty and incredible nature like at the Tortoise Sanctuary.
